The small town of New Hope, Georgia can be found 4.1 miles northeast of Dallas along State Route 381, the Dallas Acworth Highway. Its principle business district intersects with northwestern running East Paulding Road and Old Cartersville Road leading southeast to Mount Tabor Park. The town borders Cobb County is less than an hour from Atlanta, making the town an attractive location for commuters. Due to the proximity of the Wood Valley neighborhood, Google Maps does not distinguish between the unincorporated communities, but the town can be seen on Bing Maps.

Major General William T. Sherman’s Atlanta campaign took the Union army through the town, resulting in the Battle of New Hope Church. Sherman met the Confederate Army of Tennessee commanded by General Joseph E. Johnston. The battle was a result of Sherman attempting to outmaneuver Johnston and not succeeding. The Confederacy won the day. Five acres of the battlefield are held by the Civil War Trust, while the majority of the land is privately held along Bobo Road and Highway 381.

On April 4, 1977, Southern Airways Flight 242 crashed in New Hope, killing 72 people, 9 on the ground. There were 100 people on board. The pilots had been trying to emergency land on Highway 92, but the plane’s wingspan was too great for utility poles along either side. Survivors still meet at the site once per decade.Pizza-lovers are spoiled for choice, with a Totopos, Dominos, and Johnny’s New York Style Pizza in town. Other hungry visitors to New Hope can drop in at the Waffle House or Rodney’s Bar-B-Que and Catering. Businesses in the area include a Publix Super Market, Dollar General, Marathon Gas, and Walgreens. The New Hope First Baptist Church can be found at 31 Bobo Road. The New Hope Education Center, helmed by Dr. Vladimir Labossiere, provides a “non-traditional model” of education centered around web-based education with teacher support.
