Etowah Indian Mounds

Etowah Indian Mounds is an archaeological site which was home to thousands of Native Americans from 1000 A.D. to 1500 A.D. The site consists of six earthen mounds, a plaza, village site, borrow pits, and defensive ditch. The artifacts in this museum display how natives of this area dressed, hand-carved stone effigies that bear some of the original decorations, and other objects made from wood and seashells. The site has a natural trail which highlights how early civilizations used native plantation for food and medicine. Only nine percent of the site has been used to find remains, the rest stands as a memorial site for the people who lived there.
