It was renamed as the Grand Theatre. The new name brought in many new stars and multiple technological improvements were made. Notable actors such as Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Loretta Young, Rudolph Valentino, and Charlie Chase made appearances at the Grand Theatre in the 1920s. More actors like film star Lash Laroo made appearances in person at the theatre in later years. During the summer of 1977, the Grand Theater presented its last movie performance, however, the programming was still kept alive by the Pumphouse Players who performed plays such as “Arsenic and Old Lace”, “The King and I”, and “Oklahoma.” They ran a campaign called “Save the Grand” to create awareness about the historical importance of the theater. The campaign was successful as the theater was purchased by a local member to be renovated; the theater was completely converted from a movie theater to live-performance venue by May 19, 1989. The ‘new’ theater opened with a production called “Gallavantin’ at the Grand.” The theater also conducted an annual Entertainment Series which featured professional performing groups of different genres. The theater went through another renovation in 2004 where the interiors were decorated to resemble the Grand’s look in the 1930s.
