Wood Valley in Paulding County, Georgia is four miles and a seven minutes drive northeast of Dallas, and is easiest reached from that town by taking highway 381. The small, crossroads settlement lies primarily on the Dallas Acworth Highway and the intersection where Old Cartersville Road becomes EastPaulding Drive.
Visitors are most likely to drop into town briefly for food or supplies after spending the day at the nearby Samuel U Braly Sports Complex, Mount Tabor Park, or Pickett’s Mill Historic Site.
Wood Valley is notable for a number of largely chain dining choices for the largely rural vicinity to choose from, in particular in the number of pizza places on offer. These include Pearl China, Totopos Mexican, Waffle House, a Little Caesars Pizza, Dominos Pizza, Marco’s Pizza, and Johnny’s New York Style Pizza. Rodney’s Bar-B-Que and Catering on the north side of town serves daily specials mixing up catfish, Salisbury steak, chicken alfredo, and other family-style meals.
Downtown is dominated by the New Hope Cemetery, where a Civil War battle played out. The Battle of New Hope Church, fought during General Sherman’s march on Atlanta, resulted in many deaths on both sides between May 25 and 26 in 1864. However, like the nearby Battle of Pickett’s Mill, the South won this specific battle.
Shoppers can stock up on whatever they may need here, as there’s a bank, a Walgreens, a Dollar General, and a supermarket all doing business. Wood Valley is also home to an animal hospital, a U-Haul dealer, and two auto repair shops. There are no motels in town. The town is largely heavily wooded in the surrounding area other than a planned community across from the bar-b-cue restaurant on Due West Road.
Local students may attend the New Hope Education Center on Dallas Acworth Highway.
