The hamlet of Roxana is located in rural northwestern Paulding County, Georgia. An unincorporated community, the settlement can be found on Dallas Acworth Highway (GA-381). It is closest to Crossroads, a collection of small businesses only one mile north. Dallas, Georgia lies 7 miles away to the southwest and Atlanta is around 35 miles southeast.
Roxana can be characterized as a small bedroom community with the majority of housing concentrated on offshoot roads. Beside the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Somerset Drive winds west and splits into Cabana Court and the cul de sac roads Wellsey Way, Court, and Lane. Adjacent to Paulding Building Supply and Hardware is the Fair Wood Drive neighborhood, and to their south is Mill Creek Drive and Mill Creek Hollow. The Picketts Mill Creek flows south of these communities. A small pond can be seen across from the hardware store, but lies on private property.
Locals must visit Crossroads for fast food, coffee, grocery, gasoline, and pharmacy needs. Apart from the hardware store, there are no commercial interests in Roxana. Roxana had a post office in 1895, but no railroad service. The post office is long gone; the closest post offices are in Dallas and Brookstone. Children attend Russom Elementary School.
For outdoor recreation, visitors may wish to drop by the Pickett’s Mill Battlefield. This well-maintained recreation area provides picnicking tables and a group shelter, hiking, and historic landmarks to visit, including earthworks and a pioneer cabin. The battle site was significant in the course of the Atlanta advance of 1864, as the Union Army attempted to outflank the Confederates and lost. 1,600 Union soldiers lost their lives, while the Confederate troops suffered 500 losses. By morning, May 28th, the Confederacy held the field and forced a one week delay on the advance.
